Ratings
91 Points - JamesSuckling.com. "A red with lots of iodine, stone, currant and spice character. It's full-bodied, chewy and juicy. I like this slightly better than the Estate Bottled in 2010. Needs a least three or four years to soften: better in 2016."
Winemaker Notes
Our 2010 Handmade Merus Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a selection of barrels that captured intensity and elegance of the Coombsville AVA. Dark garnet in color, this wine is filled with aromas of blackberry, barrel toast, and black and red peppercorn floral notes are first to climb from the glass. The very cool vintage that was the 2010 is apparent in this beauty’s slight reticence at first. With a short decanting, it hits full stride, revealing the potential for immediate enjoyment as well as giving hints of what’s to come with several more years of cellaring. The mouth is compact like a hard candy that needs to be rolled around a while to expose the many layers of fruit, spice, smoke, and dried flowers.

Production Notes
The 2010 growing season in Coombsville began with cool, wet weather in the spring and early summer. A heat spell in August helped accelerate the ripening process with little negative impact to the vineyards. Prior to harvest we went through each site on a vine by vine basis and carefully removed any damaged clusters. Due to the rains in October, we picked fruit on three separate occasions based on flavor and the condition of the berries. Produced by guest winemaker David Lattin, our Handmade 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon comes entirely from a select group of sites in the Coombsville region of Napa. Recently granted AVA status, this cool, hilly region is located east of the town of Napa and north of San Pablo Bay. After a cold pre-soak and fermentation, the wine spent a total of 20 months in 100% new French oak barrels. It was bottled unfiltered to preserve the integrity of the fruit.
