Well-rounded and bold. Nicely balanced with structure and a unique palate. Dominated with aromas of berry fruits including blackberries, and raspberries.

Winemaker Notes
This 2011 Handmade Firestone Red Wine is well rounded and bold. The Cabernet is nicely balanced and the addition of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc give it more structure and a unique palate. The nose is dominated with aromas of berry fruits including blackberries, and raspberries. Some higher red raspberry tones dance at the higher end of the spectrum with hints of leather and sandalwood as well as vanilla and dusty earth.

Production Notes
This wine comes from Firestone’s Vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley. Our vineyards sit at 1,000 feet in elevation. While we have vines that date back to the original plantings from 40 years ago, recently we have begun a replanting of our estate vineyards. These plantings utilize the most recent advances in viticulture regarding clone selection, row orientation, and rootstocks. The winemaker selected individual barrels from special lots to create this unique blend. After assembling, the wine was allowed to age for an additional six months in barrel before bottling, allowing the flavors to marry properly.
Vineyard Notes
2011 was a cooler than average growing season, but we had a very warm and dry winter that resulted in bud break beginning in the last week of February. A wet spring gave the vines ample water and made stressing the vines difficult later in the season. Summer was very cool, without many of the usual heat spikes. September was a huge relief, bringing in warm weather that burned off the fog that had been covering us all summer. A few late season showers had minimal effect on the fruit and allowed us to pick at optimal flavors and sugars.
