Food Pairing Notes
This Meritage is perfect for drinking now paired with your favorite cut of grilled red meat and garlic red mashed potatoes in a red wine reduction. Food & Wine Pairing by Master Sommelier, Robert Smith - "With Valentine’s Day happening this month, celebrating loved ones is fresh on our minds. So, I thought, “What better pairing could be suggested than a rich, delectable chocolate treat to savor with your sweetheart?” Our Rutherford Meritage and dark chocolate truffles dusted with coconut and crushed nuts go hand in hand to satisfy the senses. The fully concentrated aromas of this Meritage unlock beautifully with dark berries, black fruits and a hint of sagebrush. Its seamless mouthfeel of black cherry, and cocoa complements dark chocolate truffles beautifully to give you and your loved one a decadent dessert to remember!"

Production Notes
Vintage 2012 was considered ‘perfect’ by the prognosticators as soon as the last grapes were making their way to the wineries. It was perfect in the sense that quality and quantity benefited both grower and winemaker. The weather cooperated throughout all critical parts of the growing season to produce beautifully ripe and flavorful fruit. The Foley Johnson Estate Meritage is grown on loamy soils of gravel, clay, and sand which helps provide ample drainage and lessen the vigor of foliage growth. These ideal growing conditions allow our Bordeaux varietals to reach full maturity on the vine without taking on the green leafy taste of under-ripened fruit. The grapes were harvested between September 19th through October 19th, 2012 under clear night skies. The wine went through 100% malolactic fermentation and was racked four times throughout the barreling process. After 18 months of aging in new and used French Oak barrels (30% new) the wine was bottled July 16, 2014.
