Floral aromas of lilies and dried sage complement blueberries and cherries on the nose. Black cherry, bramble fruit, dried herbs, and cola are nicely balanced with juicy acidity and a tannic core.

Our 2012 Handmade Alexander Valley Malbec is a deep purple and rich wine composed of our oldest hillside block of Malbec. Beautiful floral aromas of lilies and dried sage complement blueberries and cherries with a touch of vanilla and leather on the nose. The fruit from our estate vineyard blocks meld together to create a combination of power and restraint on the palate. Black cherry, bramble fruit, dried herbs, and cola are nicely balanced with juicy acidity wrapped around a tannic core.
Winemaker Notes
In almost all respects, 2012 was a textbook growing season. Mild weather with little rain and no heat allowed for prime fruit set. We harvested the grapes on September 27, 2012. Overall, the wines have great uniformity, outstanding balance, and very soft and mature tannins.

Production Notes
Coming from Lancaster Estate and keeping consistent with their commitment to making wines of authenticity and place, all of the wines are estate grown, produced and bottled. Native yeasts are used for primary fermentation while secondary malolactic fermentation occurs naturally in barrel. To preserve the truest expression of the estate, the Foley Johnson 2012 Handmade Alexander Valley Malbec was gently fined and then bottled unfiltered. The 2012 was aged 26 months in 100% French oak. We chose barrels from several coopers including Darnajou, Taransaud, Demptos, Saury, and Bel Air. 100% of the barrels were new, and coopered using a combination of Medium Plus, Medium Long, and Heavy toast levels to provide better integration and balance.
