Brightly colored, fresh, fruity, and immediately appealing. Without a doubt the finest Chardonnay we have ever produced. Kicks salivary glands into overdrive.

Winemaker Notes
We’ve been playing with methods to build power and flavor into our Chardonnays for years now – mostly by employing old-fashioned methods of soaking the crushed fruit on the stems for hours or days or fermenting a portion of the fruit partially or to complete dryness with skins and stems. In experimentation, you always want to take an idea too far to see the extremes of the outcome. Doing it to only a portion of the vintage allows you to blend back in an extreme lot that has the attributes you want but on its own would prove too unusual for the average consumer. In vintages 2010, 2011, and 2012, we did just that. In 2013, we used the method that we felt gave us the most flavor without being to over-the-top, and the results are spectacular! This is without a doubt the finest Chardonnay we have ever produced. Our goal has been to produce a Chardonnay that properly reflects the mountain-top location, the rugged remoteness, and the intense impression that this property leaves on people’s minds when they visit. We also wanted to produce a white wine that rivals our reds in impact. I think we have done it with the 2013 Homestead Chardonnay. It has the oily lemon zest character that only some time on the skins can yield and the spice and grip that kicks salivary glands into overdrive from the stems.

Vineyard Notes
Feeling refreshed after the spectacular 2012 vintage, we were prepared to tackle a challenging vintage in 2013 but instead were treated to another fantastic year with even greater concentration. We began the harvest on August 21, nineteen days earlier than in 2012. This seems to be a trend lately. What the early ripening lots have in common are distinct summer-like aromas and flavors as opposed to those of fall. They are brightly colored, fresh, fruity, and immediately appealing.
