Vineyard Notes
100% Santa Ynez Valley, La Cuesta Vineyard. Located a few miles northwest of the town of Santa Ynez, the 12-acre La Cuesta Vineyard is one of the Santa Ynez Valley's most historic sites. Planted in 1973, this elevated southeast-facing property sits upon a bed of gravel and chemise shale. The combination of full sun exposure, low rainfall, long growing season, and porous soils makes this a great site for all of the Bordeaux varieties. The 2013 vintage was abundant with mild rain during the first part of spring and only a few incidents of frost before bud break. Conditions remained ideal from bloom to set which were only minimally burdened by the typical afternoon winds that swept through Sta. Rita Hills. The yields were high in quality and quantity, emulating the 2012 vintage.
