Production Notes
The Sta. Rita Hills AVA is located in Santa Barbara County and is characterized by its cool climate, influenced by the fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean, and its marine-based soils. This makes the region well-suited for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Rancho Santa Rosa Vineyard lies within this premier AVA and features hilly vineyards that climb from 500 to 1,000 feet above sea level. After harvest, the grapes were whole-cluster pressed and transferred to tank where it was fermented with native yeast and then racked to French oak barrels. After 17 months in barrel (30% new) with regular lees stirring, the wine was bottled. 2013 was a prime vintage in the Sta. Rita Hills. The dry winter led to an early budbreak and fruit set. This consistently warm and moderately dry weather lasted throughout the growing season resulting in vibrant acidity and even ripening of the fruit. The fruit came in with great quality and quantity, and was harvested in the early morning hours on September 21st 2013.
