Outstanding vintage for riper styled Cabernets coming from the Alexander Valley! Beautiful aromatics of blackberry and bergamot tea with hints of dark chocolate and vanilla.

Ratings
92 Points - Robert Parker. "Offering a good contrast to the Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley offers has a dense ruby/purple color and complete symmetry in its tannin, acidity, alcohol and wood. It is full-bodied, ripe, with loads of black fruits, a slight earthiness that gives it a different element than the Sonoma cuvée, and seems slightly bigger and richer than the Sonoma, but both are great values in the scheme of world-class Cabernet Sauvignons. This wine should drink well for 20 years."
Winemaker Notes
Dense ruby red in color, this 2013 has beautiful aromatics of blackberry and bergamot tea with hints of dark chocolate and vanilla. Rich, yet compact flavors of blackberry erupt on the palate in a more elegant style with some Cabernet spice. It finishes with loamy earth and vanilla from the oak barrels. Production Notes
2013 was a warm, dry season with good lighter, winter rainfall at the start of the drought. Crop set was above average for Cabernet; but the drier, warmer summer meant smaller berries. The nighttime temperatures were cool in August and September, enabling more color and flavor development. Flawless, fall weather allowed complete ripeness of both fruit and tannins. We harvested the grapes September 14th – October 14th, 2013. After a three-day cold soak, we crushed and fermented the grapes at relatively warm temperatures in stainless steel tanks. After pressing, each lot was blended or lightly egg-white fined to remove green tannins. The wine was aged for 13 months, primarily in new and one-year-old French oak barrels. A smaller percentage went into Hungarian and American oak. A portion of Merlot was added during the first assemblage for balance, aromatics and flavor.
Vineyard Notes
The Alexander Valley is located north of the town of Healdsburg in Sonoma County. It is one of the warmer AVAs in the region making it the perfect spot for red Bordeaux grapes. 61% of the Cabernet came from gravelly blocks with Clone #4, #6, #7, and #337 from the Lyon Vineyard. It also includes grapes from the Vimark and Mountain Terraces vineyards. Merlot was added coming from the Cherryblock and Pinnacle Vineyards.
