Ratings
92 Points - Wine Spectator. "Combines a brooding core of lively tannins and acidity with rich and lively blueberry, crushed stone and cracked pepper flavors. Would benefit from time in the cellar. Best after 2018."
Winemaker Notes
Syrah is known for its robust mouthfeel and intense flavor profile. Although its characteristics make it an excellent blending varietal, it is also one of the most dynamic single varietal wines we produce. Aromas of dark red fruits and cured meats transition into flavors of vanilla, nutmeg and toasted coconut. The palate has an inherent smokiness and wonderfully weighty mouthfeel rounded out by soft, luxurious tannins.
Food Pairing Notes
Pair this wine with grilled sirloin or barbeque sliders. "This Clone 174 Syrah has dynamic aromas and great depth perfect for this season’s holiday pairings. It’s a great accompaniment to pan roasted beef tenderloin with oven roasted fingerling potatoes and roasted Chioggia beets. The depth of the Syrah can stand up to the flavorful tenderloin and its spicy notes play well with the herbal tones of the potatoes and beets. A rich and robust wine well suited for your holiday table." —Robert Smith, Master Sommelier

Production Notes
2014 was a vintage of both high quality and quantity of fruit. An early bud break in the last week of February and a warm, dry spring led to a slightly earlier bloom and fruit set. Despite the lack of rainfall, the timing of the growth of the vines was perfect. Few incidents of frost and a warmer than average summer allowed the grapes to ripen at an optimal pace. The fruit was harvested in cool temperatures and at full maturity, from September 19th–20th, 2014.
Vineyard Notes
The Santa Ynez Valley is located just two hours north of Los Angeles and five hours south of San Francisco, adjacent the cold Pacific Ocean. With the greatest concentration of wineries in Santa Barbara County - roughly 18% of its total land planted to vineyards - it is among the favorite weekend destinations for wine aficionados in the Central Coast region.
