A perfectly balanced, intense wine. An approachable, very floral nose draws you in with a palate full of dark fruits. Powerful, smooth tannins give this wine a lingering finish that will age well for years to come.

Winemaker Notes
Our 2014 Sophia’s Hillside Cuvée is composed of our young hillside blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and our oldest block of Malbec. The fruit from these estate vineyard blocks meld together to create a perfectly balanced, intense wine. It has the fruit-forward youthfulness and freshness of the young Cabernet Sauvignon that is softened and balanced by the lush old vine Malbec and young Merlot. An approachable, very floral nose draws you in with a palate full of dark fruits such as black cherry, and rustic undertones of dark chocolate, and violet. Powerful, smooth tannins give this wine a lingering finish that will age well for years to come.

Production Notes
This wine was aged sur lie for 18 months in 100% French oak from the Nevers and Allier forests in central France. We chose barrels from several coopers including Taransaud, Demptos, Saury, and Bel Air. 30% of the barrels were new and all were coopered using a combination of Medium Plus, Medium Long, and Heavy toast levels to provide better integration and balance.
Vineyard Notes
2014 proved to be a challenging yet abundant vintage in the Alexander Valley. Midsummer sugars were initially ahead of flavor development, but cool weather in September stalled ripening. This resulted in an even ripening, where the grapes reached full flavor potential through optimal maturity. The grapes were harvested from September 17 - October 13, 2014 with higher yields for the third consecutive year.
