Winemaker Notes
One of the gems on our estate vineyard is our limited production, cool climate Syrah. The 2014 Syrah has a dark inky hue with aromas of black cherry and black pepper that evolve into notes of dry cedar and caramelized sugar. The palate is powerful with a distinct powdered cacao flavor accented with pomegranate fruit. Structured tannins and acidity linger into notes of dried oregano and black olive on the finish.
Food Pairing Notes
Pair this Syrah with Greek cuisine. 2014 Sta. Rita Hills Syrah Paired with Grilled Tuna Steaks Deconstructed Niçoise “The delicate cracked pepper and bright dark berry notes in this Syrah make for an interesting and quite amazing counterpart to the depth of the Grilled Tuna. Rosemary and Thyme aromas dance from the glass and mingle seamlessly with the whole grain Mustard qualities of the Salad” Also great with Porchetta – Robert Smith, Master Sommelier

Production Notes
As part of the original Spanish Land Grant, Rancho Santa Rosa is one of Santa Barbara’s most historic properties. This beautiful south-facing hillside climbs from 500 to 1,000 feet above sea level. It features 59 individual micro-blocks delineated by terroir, soil type, elevation, grade and exposure to the maritime winds off the Pacific Ocean. Following harvest, the fruit was cold soaked for a few days to extract color, flavor, and tannin prior to fermentation. The wine was aged for 19 months in a combination of French and Hungarian oak barrels, 40% of which were new.
Vineyard Notes
Rancho Santa Rosa. The 2014 vintage was another solid year in the Sta. Rita Hills. It was our third consecutive abundant vintage with high quality fruit and large yields. With the earliest bud break on record in the region and such a warm growing season, this was also the earliest harvest to date. Conditions remained ideal from bloom to set only minimally burdened by the typical afternoon winds that sweep through Sta. Rita Hills.
