Displays anise, allspice and plum on the nose. This wine’s mouthwatering acidity neatly pulls the flavors of raspberry, cranberry and blueberry together, with a hint of clove spice on the lingering finish.

Winemaker Notes
Dark purple in color, our 2014 Sonoma Valley Barbera displays anise, allspice and plum on the nose. Generous dark fruit flavors of raspberry, cranberry and blueberry accompany smoky overtones of white pepper and black licorice. This wine’s mouthwatering acidity neatly pulls the flavors together, with a hint of clove spice on the lingering finish. This wine pairs perfectly with an Ossobuco as well as tomato based pasta dishes. - David Nakaji, Winemaker

Production Notes
The 2014 vintage started out with a mild winter and spring, which led to an early bud break. Set was complete by mid-May in a scene similar to last year’s growing season. Moderate temperatures and dry conditions led to even ripening and moderated yields. Overall, a ripe, fruit forward vintage with a more soft tannin profile. The grapes were harvested on October 28th at optimum ripeness under clear night skies. The fruit was crushed and then destemmed into a tank for a four day cold soak. The grapes were pressed slightly sweet with only a light press fraction added back. It went into 25% new Hungarian and 75% neutral Hungarian and French oak barrels with light lees to develop more roasted coffee aromas after malolactic fermentation in the barrel. We aged for 12 months, and then blended in Syrah, Malbec, Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot to enhance color and body. The wine was bottled in January 2016.
Vineyard Notes
Barbera is arguably the most successful Italian varietal grown in California. The late August Sebastiani pioneered this varietal in the early ’60s and has been famous for it ever since. The core of our 2014 Barbera (78%) comes from the Serres Vineyard located in the Sonoma Valley.
