Flint and fresh applesauce aromas with crème brulee and oak expressions underneath. Rich, concentrated flavor with yellow apple fruit with ripe peach and apricots interplaying.

Winemaker Notes
Our 2014 Sonoma County Chardonnay is yellow to light gold in color. The wine has flint and fresh applesauce aromas with crème brulee and oak expressions underneath. The flavor shows rich, concentrated, yellow apple fruit with ripe peach and apricots interplaying. The finish has caramel and roasted nuts with softer acidity – indicative of Chardonnay when it completely yellows on the vine prior to harvest. - Mark R. Lyon, Winemaker

Production Notes
2014 had consistently dryer, warmer weather without extreme heat. It was the third year of drought, and the vines yielded less as a result. Riper orchard fruit (yellow apple, peach, and apricot) was more expressed with higher fruit concentration. All grapes were hand harvested between September 7th and October 7th, 2014 under clear night skies. We hand-picked and whole-cluster pressed the grapes, and then racked roughly half of the juice into barrels for primary and malolactic fermentations. The remainder of the fruit was tank fermented at cooler temperatures to preserve the bright fruit and firm structure. After fermentations, 85% of the wine was aged in new and used French, Hungarian, and American oak barrels for 10 months. The rest was kept in stainless steel tanks to help balance out the wine.
Vineyard Notes
For more than four decades, Sonoma County has been one of the premier regions in California for Chardonnay. Our multiplicity of climates and soils provide a broad range of sites perfectly suited for this noble grape. Taking full advantage of this diversity, our 2014 Sonoma County Chardonnay features fruit from Carneros, Sonoma Valley, Chalk Hill, Lodi and Alexander Valley.
