Blackberry, raspberry and black pepper aromas dominate the nose with a light touch of toasty oak and supple tannins on the palate.

Winemaker Notes
The fruit for our Santa Margarita Zinfandel is sourced from a small vineyard just outside of the town of Santa Margarita near Paso Robles. Planted on gentle slopes, its sandy loam soils help to promote vines with reduced vigor. Blackberry, raspberry and black pepper aromas dominate the nose with a light touch of toasty oak and supple tannins on the palate.
Food Pairing Notes
This Santa Margarita Reserve Zinfandel is deep and elegant with notes of dark fruit and dried herbs. Pair with seared duck breast with coconut ginger yams and a cherry Zinfandel sauce. The acidity of the Zinfandel cuts through the meatiness and fat of the duck, while the dish’s intense bright fruits capture the richness, texture and smoke in the Zinfandel. —Robert Smith, M.S.

Production Notes
2015 was another dry year in Paso Robles. An extremely mild winter led to an early bud break. There were very few frost days as our warm and mild weather defined the rest of the growing season. The fruit was harvested during September through October which was a couple weeks ahead of schedule; however, quality was high across the board.
Vineyard Notes
For a region that has been growing grapes since 1797, Paso Robles has all of a sudden become one of the “hottest” AVAs in California. Located midway between Santa Barbara and Monterey, this rolling countryside is synonymous with big, rich, high-character wines. The west portion of Paso Robles enjoys a moderately cool climate thanks to the influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean. This is great ground for Chardonnay. The inland east side is warm and sunny and perfect for Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
